Adult diapers solve the problem of urinary incontinence in the elderly with cognitive impairment

Studies have shown that the elderly with cognitive impairment are at greater risk of developing urinary incontinence than the normal elderly. Undoubtedly, urinary incontinence further aggravates the care needs of the elderly with dementia. An institution investigated the nursing status of 50 elderly people with dementia with urinary incontinence in elderly care institutions, analyzed the advantages and limitations of different care methods, and provided an objective basis for exploring care methods in elderly care institutions.

Methods: 50 elderly people with dementia and urinary incontinence living in an elderly care institution in Hangzhou were randomly divided into a group of 24 cases and a group of 26 cases. Complications occurred in the two groups after 3 months.

Results: Complications occurred: 19 cases (79.2%) in the first group, including 10 cases of skin changes and 9 cases of urinary tract infection; 5 cases (19.2%) of the second group, including 3 cases of skin changes and 2 cases of urinary tract infection ; (two) the difference between the groups was statistically significant.

Conclusion: The diaper method is more suitable for the elderly with dementia.

As the population ages, the incidence of geriatric incontinence is increasing. It has been reported in the literature that the incidence of urinary incontinence in nursing homes is 43% to 77%.
